Overview of the Reunification Day in Vietnam

Vietnamese Reunification Day is a public holiday on April 30 annually, marking the day North Vietnamese forces captured Saigon, the end of the Vietnam War. It is the way of the formation between the North and South regions.

On April 26th 1945, Vietnamese army took the offensive and successfully advanced into the Saigon center. When Vietnamese tanks and infantry entered the Independence Palace at 10:45 am on April 30th 1945, Duong Van Minh who was the president of South Vietnam surrendered unconditionally.

For the first time in history, France - an imperial nation - was defeated by an economically underdeveloped colonial country - Vietnam. After the victory of  Vietnam on the day of 30/4, many other colonial countries  were inspired to fight for independence against colonial rule. 

What to do to celebrate Vietnamese Reunification Day?

Vietnam's Reunification Day holds great cultural and historical significance with Vietnamese people. All of the firms, offices are closed and the business activities in the city are temporarily stopped to celebrate this day. 

There are many musical performances about historical songs to perform, reminding the next generation of the resilience and perseverance of  his father who fought for country peace. Each home flew a Vietnamese flag in front of the gate and the city streets were covered by the red color of the flag.

 The workers in Vietnam will get a break for about two days including The combination of International Labor Day (May 1) and Vietnamese Reunification Day. If the holidays is Hung Kings' Commemoration Day or Saturday, Sunday. You can take a rest about 5 days off, a long holiday period.
