Ba Chua Xu temple An Giang is the well-known temple, with impressive architecture to vibrant culture. This temple attracts a large number of tourists during festivals, making its atmosphere vibrant. Overview of Ba Chua Xu Temple

Ba Chua Xu Temple is located in Chau Doc city, An Giang Province and worship to Ba Chua Xu which is a deity with great power and protects the locals from harm and brings luck.

The origin of Ba Chua Xu started 200 years ago. According the telling of local people, the people saw the statue of Ba Chua Xu on the Sam Mountain. However, to bring it down, the strong young men can not do it. One of these men dreamed of the statue, if you want to bring the statue down, there were only nine maidens.

But the statue became heavy when carried to the foot of the mountain and didn't walk anymore. The people though Ba Chua Xu want to be placed here and local built the temple as a place of worship. 

Another legend about Ba Chua Xu tells that, when the country was attacked by the Siamese army, people fled to Sam mountain to take refuge. 

Simaese saw and chased to the top of the mountain. They saw Ba Chu Xu's statue and wanted to bring it down. Due to its heavy state, they struck and broke the left arm of the statue. Then, the Siamese army  paid the price for their actions by divine force. The local people took the statue to the foot of the mountain and constructed a temple to worship. 

The third legend about Ba Chua Xu Temple tells about Mr. Thoai Ngoc Hau and Ms Chau Nhi Te. Thanks to her for helping him defeat foreign invaders at the border. 

What to do and see in Ba Chua Xu temple?

Explore unique architecture 

The architecture is designed with a lotus having a three storey root. When just building the temple, it was a simple background with bamboo leaves. Nowadays, the temple is modern and beautiful with tiles and colored bricks after several renovations. The temple is divided into 2 sections, having a highlight temple that is the main hall. 

The statue of Ba Chua Xu is placed in the inner section, located on a high pedestal.  There are two altars in the sides of this area, the Altar of Co (Aunt) and the Altar of Chu (Uncle).

Located in the outer section of the temple is the Altar of Council, including the Altar of Tien Sage on the left and the Altar of Hau Sage on the right. The statue is carved with vibrant colors. Remember to visit this place to admire it. 

Visiting festivals

The festival of Ba Chua Xu is held in the fourth lunar month every year. The festival has several ceremonies and activities including carrying the statue of Ba Chua Xu, the ceremony to bathe her, the ceremony to pray to Lord Thoai Ngoc Hau, the ceremony to give offerings... Besides, you can visit some traditional games and see cultural performance of Cham, Hoa, Kinh, Khmer people.

Take a cable car

You can get to Sam mountain by a cable car system with a height of 900m. Tourists can see a paranomic view of Ba Chua Xu temple and some attractions in An Giang. Travelers can especially admire lush green rice fields and winding waterways. Experience on a cable car with the price of 35.000 VND to 100.000 VND.

How to get to Ba Chua Xu Chau Doc?

Ba Chua Xu temple is near the city center, allowing you to easily approach the temple. If you depart from Ho Chi Minh city, you can get to the temple by many vehicles such as bus, private cars. Taking a bus is  the cheapest way, go through Trung Luong - My Thuan highway to get to Chau Doc. It takes about 5 to 6 hours to transfer to Ba Chua Xu Chau Doc, An Giang from Ho Chi Minh city. 

However, a relaxing and comfortable journey with car rental service. The driver will wait for you at the hotel/homestay to transfer you to Ba Chua Xu temple. On the way, you can stop whenever and wherever you want. Renting a private car with a driver is the best choice for a group.

  • Avoid coming on weekends if you want to seek a peaceful and quiet journey. 
  • Wear a polite clothes 
  • Bring sunscreen and a jacket along to protect yourself. 
  • Bring water and snacks
  • Don't litter, step onto the grass and touch the statue
