The origin of Ban Co peak has many different stories. However there is a popular story to mention by local people. Once upon a time, an old fairy came acrosss Son Tra and sat down on a large rock at a mountain top to admire the natural beauty. He created a Chinese chess board on the rock while enjoying the scenery.
After, another fairy which was De Thich, came across and joined the game. Two players played for several days but the chess games didn't end. They continued to play chess in peaceful scenery of Son Tra day by day.

Suddenly one day, from heaven, several beautiful fairies came to a nearby beach which is called "Tien Sa", meaning "visited by fairies". After having fun at the clear water of Son Tra beach, the fairies got to the mountaintop to see the game of two fairies.
However, the laughter of the fairies distracted De Thich, causing him to make a wrong move. As the suitable condition, the old fairy end the game and returned to heaven, leaving De Thich alone on the mountaintop. De Thinh tried to find a way to resolve the game but there was no answer.

The story was known by a lot of people. To remind people about them, the local residents carved a Chinese chess board on a flat rock on top of Son Tra Peninsula. Sitting on a chess board, there is a statue of De Thich, observing the chess game.

Besides, the another story telling about Ban Co peak. There is a small hermitage called Bach Van built by a Truc Lam monk. Unfortunately, the hermitage was destroyed, only the base remained.
With the shape of a square, as the same as a fairy chess board. So, the peak is called "Ban Co", meaning "a chess board".
How to get to Ban Co peak?
Ban Co Peak is about 20km from Danang city. However, the road to Ban Co peak is quite tortuous and narrow. So, you should take a motorbike and book a private tour.
After passing all the passes, you have to climb up the mountain. The path is dangerous. So, you should be careful because both sides are small bushes.
