Soc Trang is 180 kms away in 5 hours driving by private car transfers from Saigon (Ho Chi Minh city) to the South via the National Highway (NHw) 1A which passes by My Tho, and via NHw 60 which passes by Ben Tre and Tra Vinh. The population of Soc Trang province is over 1.2 million people, including 400,000 (about 33%) Khmers, who is the 2nd biggest ethnic community in Soc Trang and is the 5th biggest ethnic community in Vietnam. 1. Khleang Pagoda. It was built in 1532. Add: Khom 5, ward 6, Soc Trang city, Soc Trang province. Khleang Pagoda is locally known as the oldest religious site in Soc Trang. Inside the pagoda is where to find priceless Buddhist teachings. One exciting thing behind the place is that it used to be built from wood, leaves, and bamboo.

2. Bat Pagoda. It was built in 1569. Add: Ward 3, Soc Trang City. Bat Pagoda is the symbol of Khmer architecture. There are countless bats living and nesting in the backyard; they feed on fruits at night and sleep in daylight, so you can see them hanging (sleeping) on trees when visiting Bat Pagoda. The monks at this pagoda believe that this place is a very peaceful place, therefore the bats come to stay.

3. Khmer Museum. Add: 53, Ton Duc Thang str, ward 6, Soc Trang City. It is opposite Khleang Pagoda. It is in the typical architecture of the Khmer pagoda.  More compellingly, what to see inside this building is a series of artifacts which represent the spiritual life as well as the daily life of the Khmer community. Oc Om Boc, the annual Water Festival of the Khmer people, will this year coincide with the Vietnam Rice Festival in Soc Trang Province, home to a large community of the ethnic minority group.

The nation’s second Rice Festival will take place in the Mekong Delta province on November 8-11 this year to glorify the commodity, which is the lifeblood of the nation.

Oc Om Boc, the most important annual event of the ethnic minority group, is dedicated to the moon and organized in the province every year on the fifteenth day of the tenth lunar month. The main purpose of the ritualistic ceremony is to pray to the Moon God for abundant crops and fish from the rivers, as well as good health for villagers.

What is the best time to visit Soc Trang Vietnam?
Soc Trang is the same with other provinces of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, it is also the land of mild climate and pleasant weather, so it’s deemed to be an ideal destination to visit all year round.

The climate in Soc Trang is split into two seasons: rainy season (normally from May to October) and dry season (normally from November to April). You can hope to find a quite comfortable trip to this province as the average temperature there falls in around 29 degree Celsius. Sometimes there are several storms in the rainy season.
