Located on Tam Giang Lagoon in Quang Dien District, around 25 kilometers from downtown Hue, the small fishing village is home to around 200 families whose boats have been their lifelines for generations.
Hue Ngu My Thanh fishing market is considered Hue’s busiest, with boats converging here from dawn.
Huu Thuong, a freelance photographer in Hue, who took these photos, said he woke up and came to the fishing village around 5 a.m. and chose a beautiful angle to wait for the sun to rise. Summer is the perfect time to catch sunrise here.
Local fishermen typically set out to sea from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and bring their fish and shrimp to Ngu My Thanh floating market to sell.
Between May and July is the busiest time of year for the village while fishermen avoid sailing from August to November, usually considered storm season in central Vietnam.
The village is quite far from downtown Hue, taking tourists around 30 minutes to reach.
Hue Fishing Village Bathed In Light Of Down
In 2019, the village was decorated with mural paintings aimed to lure more tourists and raise awareness about protecting the environment, making it the first mural village in Thua Thien-Hue Province, home to Vietnam's former feudal capital Hue.
Once known as a poor rural area, Tam Giang Lagoon has become a busy destination, which attracts travelers and photography enthusiasts with its sparkling yellow light at dawn.
In addition, the floating market is one of the distinctive features of Tam Giang Lagoon.
There are two well-known markets: Ngu My Thanh and Dam Chuon. Hue fishing village bathed in light of down usually starts at 4 a.m. and ends when the sun comes out around 6 a.m. Not as bustling and diverse as the floating markets in the Mekong Delta, the market at Ngu My Thanh fishing village mainly sells fresh seafood caught from Tam Giang Lagoon. According to locals, the floating market of Ngu My Thanh village has existed for hundreds of years.
