History of Long Bien Bridge
Long Bien Bridge was built by French architecture in stages from 1899 to 1902. This bridge was approved by the government general of French Indochina Paul Doumer in 1897.
There are more than 300 Vietnamese workers and 40 French engineers and experts join in the bridge's building process.
And the source of indigenous construction materials was taken from other provinces such as Hai phong, Phu Tho, Yen Bai, Thanh Hoa...

The bridge was originally named as Paul Doumer. And in 1954, marking the win of Dien Bien Phu, defeated the French.
The bridge was renamed Long Bien because the bridge is situated next to Thang Long Imperial Citadel. And the bridge looked like a dragon flying across the Red River.
However, the bridge was damaged after the Us's bombardment from 1965 to 1968. Long Bien bridge was repaired in 1973.
Long Bien Bridge was witness to the history of Hanoi with many fierce battles during two Indochina Wars.
