Ngoc Son Temple is called Jade Mountain Temple and built in the XIX century to remembrance of Tran Hung Dao who was greatest military commander of Tran Dynasty, he led the Vietnamese Army to victories over the Yuan Dynasty in the XIII century.
Besides, this temple also worships Van Xuong De Quan, the God of prosperity in ancient Chinese culture and Taoist philosophy.

Before, this place was named as " Ngoc Son Pagoda" and after it was named Ngoc Son temple, because the temple serves as the place of historical figures different from the pagoda where Buddhism practices.

Ngoc Son temple was constructed in the Ly Dynasty ( 1009 - 1225), is located in the Northeast of Hoan Kiem lake. You may come across The Huc bridge to the Ngoc Son temple. The bridge was impressed with a vermilion color , crossing the emerald Hoan Kiem lake.
In front of The Huc Bridge, you will be surprised with Thap But ( Pen Tower) and the Ink Slab. The construction is built by Nguyen Van Sieu.

The call of Pen Tower has the shape of a pen with its nib pointing to the sky, and sits on a rock pile which represents the earth. The Pen Tower has the meaning as Ta Thanh Thien , Vietnamese " writing on the blue sky". This three words was carved on a stone slab. It showed the phenomenal dreams to express by writing upon the sky.

Ngoc Son temple has two main sections to worship Tran Hung Dao and Van Xuong De Quan. The temple of Tran Hung Dao is the worship of the general of the Yuan dynasty. Tran Hung Dao's statue is placed on a 1 meter long pedestal, standing tall with his courtiers.

The statue of Van Xuong De Quan is described as a composed philosopher and scholarly knowledge.

The temple was designed according to the Chinese character of three and divided into three main sections such as the external for kowtowing, the central section for worshiping Van Xuong De Quan and the internal section for worshiping Tran Hung Dao.
