In Ha Giang, Vietnam, one of the most popular places to visit is the Nho Que River, which is located at the base of the Ma Pi Leng Pass. When viewed from above, the river seems to be nothing more than a sparkling green thread that runs through the midst of the mountains.

Nho Que River Overview

The Nho Que River originates in China's Yunnan mountains and enters Vietnam at Seo Lung Village, which is located in the Lung Cu Commune of the Dong Van District of the Ha Giang Province.

The river has a length of around 46 kilometers and, as it travels through the rugged terrain of the Dong Van rock plateau, it generates a powerful current that is characterized by an abundance of white rapids.

The most breathtaking view of the Nho Que River can be had from the stretch of the Ma Pi Leng pass that is directly adjacent to the Tu San Abyss Alley. There aren't any strong currents that are producing white foam, instead, they are mild and tranquil.

In the past, the Nho Que River was utilized for a variety of purposes, including providing water and providing fishing opportunities. Because of a hydroelectric project, the water now moves at a much more gradual pace.

The river is green and pleasant all year round, and it flows softly. Do not pass up the opportunity to have the unforgettable experience of floating down the Nho Que River on boats. Sitting on the boat while seeing the cliffs rise up to the clear sky, feeling the crisp air, and witnessing the change in the appearance of the natural surroundings is an experience that you will never come to regret.

When is the best time to visit Nho Que River?

You are welcome to explore the river at any time of the year; however, the middle of September through November is when the Nho Que river is at its most beautiful.

Additionally, this is the time of year when harvests and buckwheat blooms can be found.

Additionally, it is preferable to avoid the rainy season (typhoons) as well as wet days, as the color of the river will change from green to muddy at these times.

How to get to Nho Que River?

It is possible to access Nho Que River from Ha Giang City by traveling around 150 kilometers in the direction of Dong Van Plateau, then traveling through Meo Vac Pass and Ma Pi Leng Pass. If you are a self-driver, it is important to remember to protect yourself in the event that the roads are winding and slippery by wearing protective gear and helmets.

Another issue that the majority of guests are concerned about is finding their way to the boat terminal. There are two courses of action open to you:

If you want to get off at the Xin Cai boat station, there is a sign directing you to turn left at the end of Ma Pi Leng Pass. This sign will get you to Xin Cai. After an additional 5–7 kilometers of travel, you will arrive at the boat station where you may begin your adventure on the Nho Que River.

In order to disembark at the Ta Lang boat station, you will first need to travel four kilometers to the Pine Hill crossroads from Dong Van Town. To enter Ta Lang, turn to the left. In the event that you decide to go this route, it is imperative that you pay special attention to your surroundings because the road is extremely steep and prone to causing accidents.

Tips for traveling to Nho Que River, Ha Giang

  • Pick up an appropriate outfit: If the weather is going to be nice and pleasant, you should wear more laid-back clothes like t-shirts and jeans. During the winter, you should get warm clothing that is also waterproof, such as hoodies, wool coats, and jackets. When going to this location, make sure you have a pair of shoes that are comfy because you will be doing a lot of walking there.
  • Do not give money to local children. If you come across young children who are begging for money, it is not a good idea to offer money to them directly because it may encourage them to continue begging. Consider giving support to the local schools or charitable groups in the neighborhood instead if you want to make a difference in the lives of the children who reside there.
  • You are free to get in touch with the owner of the boat in advance and arrange the travel time. This can help you prevent getting overloaded later on or spending time waiting for enough people to come on the boat, both of which may be avoided by doing this.
  • It is possible that you will need to walk a total of about 4 kilometers while you are on your excursion; therefore, you should be prepared if you are not used to climbing.
  • Corn wine, Shan Snow old tea, and Bac Ha honey are just a few of the things you can pick up when you go to Nho Que River.

Meo Vac District is home to three outlying communities, the first of which is called Xin Cai Wharf. You can see the route that leads to Xin Cai Wharf from the region around Ma Pi Leng Pass. The journey to Xin Cai Wharf is just as taxing as the one to Ta Lang Wharf, but it rewards travelers with breathtaking vistas of the Nho Que River.
