With the area of about 850 ha, the forest is home to a rich diversity of fauna and flora. It’s great to witness wide paddy fields dotted with palmyra palm trees in proximity to the forest. Some study reveals that Tra Su Cajuput is currently the habitat of more than 70 species of birds and 11 species of animals, 25 species of reptiles, and 10 species of fish. Also, there are up to over 140 species of flora spreading through the forest. With such amazing wildlife, it’s sure to be a memorable trip for you. 2. Sam Mountain. Add: Nui Sam ward, Chau Doc city, An Giang. It is 5 kms away from the center of Chau Doc city. It is 4 kms away from the Cambodian border. And it is 284 meters above sea level. The first thing making the Sam mountain awesome to visit is the ravishing landscape with many trees especially in blossom.

In the flowering, the mountain seemingly turns red or pink due to the followers in full bloom, creating an alluring painting among nature nobody can resist.
On the top of the mountain is the site of a fortress built in the French colonial era and the trace of the base where the statue of the Lady of the Realm once stood. Just climb up there to peer down at the scenery below.

Standing on the top of the Sam mountain, you can get a panoramic view of Chau Doc and soak up the wonderful ambiance and the serenity there. Lots of temples, pagodas, and shrines spread over the mountain, and the most famous ones are the temple of the Lady of the Realm, Thoai Ngoc Hau Tomb, and Phuoc Dien Pagoda.

3. Cham Ethnic Minority (Local Islam) Village. Add: Chau Phong commune, Tan Chau district, An Giang province. It is 4 kms away from the center of Chau Doc city. It is 5 kms away from the Cambodian border. It’s a quiet peaceful village with many unique stilt houses and beautiful mosques. Its locals still earn their living making traditional things like hats and  sarongs.

4. Chau Doc Floating Village (Fishing Village). Add: Bassac River (lower-Mekong River, Chau Doc city, An Giang province, Vietnam. It is 3 kms away from the center of Chau Doc city.

It is 4 kms away from the Cambodian border. This floating village was established in the 1960s and where to raise fresh fish. At the beginning, there were a few floating platforms for raising fish. From the 1970s until 2005, the number of floating platforms had grown more and more increasingly and been the fundamental point in An Giang’s economy.

The most remarkable time of the village was from 1990 to 2005; the yield of fish was about 20,000 tons per year by that time. Nevertheless, the climate change and water pollution on the Mekong River has badly affected the raising of fish in the village and the yield has been poorer and poorer.

That’s why the village is no longer full of floating platforms. From here tourists can exit to Cambodia by International Boat through Mekong River.

3.Sesbania sesban sour soup (Canh chua bông điên điển).

4.Danio dangila (Cá linh).

During the flooding season in the Mekong Delta, usually from late August, the dangilas, after laying eggs in the Lake Sea, come down to Tien (Tiền) and Hau (Hậu) Rivers to find food. The locals have two famous dishes made of the fish: the fried floured dangila and the hot pot of dangila and sesban. The first dangila during the early of the flooding season is fat, soft, and you can even their bones. 

5.Fish jam (Mắm thái).

If you have the chance to visit Chau Doc, don’t forget to try one the most peculiar dish, but probably the best dish in the region. The delicious fish jam, although simple, is definitely the symbol of the Southern culinary.

6.Fish gut sauce (Mắm ruột).

Dipping sauce is a traditional business in An Giang, and the fish gut sauce, like many other sauces, is made by the best people in the business. The sauce, mixed with roasted rice, is good to eat for about three months. 

7.Sam Mt. seven dishes of beef (Bò bảy món Núi Sam).Coming to Sam Mountain of Chau Doc District, An Giang Province, you will have an opportunity to enjoy and fall in love with the famous seven-dishes of beef. The seven are boiled tripe, boiled meat with rice vermicelli cake, cow’s head porridge, grilled beef with bread, fried beef with Aganonerion, beefsteak, and roasted beef.

8.Beef sausage (Tung lò mò).

Tung lò mò is the Vietnamese-version name of the beef sausage. This is a delicacy of the Chăm Pa people in An Giang, who live concentrically in An Phu, Tan Chau, and Phu Tan Districts. There are two types of sausage: sour or normal. The sour sausage is made with rice, which is the ingredient makes the sausage has its sourness. The sour sausage is not easy to eat with the people who first tasted it.

9.Steamed chicken Asian bamboo leaves (Gà hấp lá trúc).

Steamed chicken Bamboo leaves is a peculiar dish in Cam Mountain. Phyllostachys is the name of the Asian bamboo. Unlike the regular bamboo, this type of bamboo has bigger leaves, the bark is rougher, and the taste of the leaves is much sourer than lemon leaves. The bamboo leaves, sour and strong, are chopped and put on top of the boiled chicken or beef will create a very distinguish flavor.

10.Scorpions (Bò cạp).

Coming to the two mountainous districts of Tinh Bien and Tri Ton, you should definitely try the crunchy fried scorpions. We all know how a scorpion looks like, and their venoms are very dangerous. They usually live in hallow trees, bushes and needed to be careful when attempting to catch one.

11.Bugs (bọ rầy).

In the Seven Mountains area of An Giang, bugs are considered exotic and loved by many people. The bugs look very much like the beetle, the size is like a thumb, the color is brown, short, wings, the head and the legs are hard but the body is soft and round. The fried bugs are tasty and fat so many try to find them and turn them into delicious dish.

13.Long Xuyen Fish rice vermicelli (Bún cá Long Xuyên).

14.Borassus pie (Bánh thốt nốt).

The borassus in the Seven Mountains region of An Giang is famed for its fresh juice, sugar, and many other dishes made from this wonderful fruit.
The borassus pie’s main ingredients are the borassus juice, the borassus fruit, and the Ms. Nhen rice.

The pie is good because it is made of the special rice from the Seven Mountains and the thick and delicious borassus. The pie has a yellow color, smell delicious, sweet and fat which is suitable for dessert or present.

15.Cham pie (Bánh Chăm).

Coming to An Phu District in An Giang, which is the hometown of the Cham people community, you will see a lot of young Champa women with srcafs cover their heads, sitting around the marketplace, selling a delicious, yellowish cake with a peculiar shape. The cake is called “ha nàm căn.”

Where to get around Chau Doc An Giang Vietnam?

1.By bus: Chau Doc bus station is a little over two kilometres to the southeast of town on the main road in from Long Xuyen. A xe-om from the bus station into the city should cost around 30,000 dong. Buses leave throughout the day to regional centres, and outside of Tet there is little need to book in advance. Note that buses to Ho Chi Minh City pass through, or go fairly close to (though not necessarily through) Long Xuyen, Sa Dec and Vinh Long, so you may well end up on a HCMC–bound bus and just be let off along the way.

2.By international boat from Cambodia:  The speedboat service from Phnom Penh leaves early morning daily, as long as there are no delays at the border, it takes around six hours to reach Chau Doc. There are multiple operators who run this service, but the most popular among independent travellers is Hang Chau.
There are fancier speedboats, including Blue Cruiser, Mandarin Cruiser, Mekong Cruiser and Victoria Hotel who all charge more and promise variations on a slightly faster and more comfortable experience.

What is the best time to visit An Giang, Vietnam?
