History of Linh Ung Pagoda

During the time of the Minh Mang emperor, the local fisherman in the Son Tra peninsula acquired a modest, sacred, and old statue of the Lady Buddha.

Thinking that this statue was a sign of good fortune, the local fishermen and locals established a modest shrine to worship it. Since then, the waves in the ocean have steadily become more calm and gentle, making it easier for fishermen to go out fishing without risking their lives and earning a living.

The Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda was formally constructed in June of 2004, following a lengthy period that included numerous ups and downs of historical times, the backing of other Buddhists, and the authorization of the local government. It has been completed as it is now after being under construction for 6 years.

The Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda was constructed on a vast area of twenty hectares on Son Tra mountain. It features some functional monuments, including the main hall of the pagoda, the lecture hall, the ancestral house, the road halls, the library, the canteen, and the Arhat statue garden.

The main shrine hall is the most revered and pristine of all the halls. A statue of Sakyamuni Buddha is located in the center, a statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva is situated on the right side, and a statue of the Buddha Tripitaka is located on the left side. To ensure the main shrine's safety, four Guardians and 18 Arhats are positioned by a special regulation.

As a result of the fact that each statue represents a distinct emotion—for example, joy, wrath, love, and hate—of the individuals who visit this location, the environment here is exceedingly sacred.

The pagoda is an excellent example of how contemporary and traditional architectural styles may be harmoniously combined in a single structure. We must ascend more than twenty stairs to reach the main door.

The Garden of Arhat Statues

In addition, the Linh Ung Pagoda is well-known for its stunning bonsai garden, which features statues of Arhats that are shown as being sophisticated, crisp, and polished.

The 18 marble Arhat statues are one of the most distinguishing aspects of this well-known pagoda. These statues were carved by the artist Nguyen Viet Minh, the chairman of the Non Nuoc craft cutting village. The materials used for the sculptures were taken from Thanh Hoa province and were monolithic in construction.

The tallest statue of the Lady Buddha.

Located on a hill that is more than one hundred meters in height, the open-air Guan Yin Buddha is the most notable feature of this pagoda. This statue of Lady Buddha is the tallest in Vietnam, measuring 67 meters in height. It is the Linh Ung Ngu Hanh Son that she is staring out over. As you know, only the diameter of the lotus tower is 35m wide.

At the interior, the diameter is 17 meters, and the height is 17 stories. On each floor, there are altars that include a total of twenty-one Buddha statues, each of which is a "Buddha righteous Buddha" statue with a different pose.

With one hand educating people and the other hand carrying a pitcher of nectar, the statue of Lady Buddha is positioned so that it faces the sea. It appears as though she is bestowing her blessings upon the fisherman who were reaching out to the sea in the hopes of a prosperous and secure harvest.

Under the Buddha’s feet is the lotus base, a lot of visitors and Buddhists regularly gather here to enjoy the compassionate beauty of this unique Lady Buddha. The landscape of the main hall along with the statue of the statue altogether create a religious, pure but elegant panorama-like paradise.
