INTRODUCTION
Nha Trang is the city in Khanh Hoa province (south of central Vietnam), also known as the Sea city of Vietnam, offers more than six-kilometer stretch of beautiful coastline with white sandy beaches, clear waters with an abundance of marine life and thriving reefs, and as well as more than 19 untouched islets near seashore. WHERE ARE YOU DOCKED
Nha trang port is a commercial port. Cruise ships dock at terminal piers port. The best way to get to nha trang City is rent a private car from travel agency or book a private tour. Taxis may wait outside the port gates but it will make you confuse with the costs different and some time you have to bargains.
- Be advised that the travel agency require your passport details in advance to arrange port passes.
- The permit to pick tourists up at the port is compulsory to the company if tourists want to be safe and legal. Expecting to pay 20-30 USD/person or maybe less. If not, you need to walk or get on shuttle bus of the port to outside.
MONEY AND TIPPING
Vietnam's currency is the Vietnamese Dong (VND). US dollars is accepted almost everywhere. However, purchases in USD tend to be rounded up to the nearest number (1USD = 20.000VND or 23.000VND). Merchants also prefer new, crisp bills and may not accept old bill. Using VND will save you a bit. This may not seem like much but the cost of living is very low in Vietnam and goods and services are very inexpensive by western standards. ATM's can be found anywhere in Nha Trang city. If you want to change money a good currency exchange is at the city center. Otherwise banks and jewelry shops will do exchange.
The international ATM services and Western Union is located at city central.
Though tipping is generally not required, leaving a small tip would be appreciated considering the low cost of living and wages.
LOCAL TRANSPORTATION
Taxis start at average at 12,000 VND for the first kilometer and 17,000 VND per kilometer thereafter. Do not take unmetered taxis!
MUST SEE SIGHT
- Po Nagar Towers. The special structure was built between the 7th and the 12th century by Cham (the prosperous time of Cham). The particular structures and bricks helped towers exist over 1000 years. Many scientists today have yet deciphered its mystery.
- Long Son pagoda. Long Son Pagoda, founded in the late 19th century, is home to a white 31 meters high Buddha statue. To get there you have to hike the 152 stone steps to the top of the hill where the pagoda sits. The place also has sweeping views of Nha Trang City.
- Nha Trang Cathedral or Stone Church. This is the church have a unique architecture that tourists looked from the outside its same the palaces and castles in ancient Roman times. Beside Gothic architecture with French style, the mountain church also owns a precious brass bell manufactured and supplied by a famous bell brand, French Carillon Bourdon.
- Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography. Considered as the biggest storage and marine research in Southeast Asia, Institute of Oceanography Nha Trang currently stores over 20,000 specimens of more than 4,000 marine species in the South China Sea. Here, visitors can see many species of marine animals raised in aquarium such as sharks, lionfish, seals, sea turtles, demon fishes, corals and sea anemones.
- Hot spring and mud bathing are popular at nha trang. Locals believe that the mud has healing powers due to its composition of rocks and volcanic ash. You will sit in a stone tub playing with mud and your skins will soft soon.
HOW TO CROSS THE STREET
Traffic can be hard to navigate in Nha Trang City. Motorbikes are everywhere, and as a pedestrian, crossing the street can be scary. Wait for a break in the traffic before crossing the road and then slowly go to the other side. If you are scared, cross with a local.
SHOPPING AND RESTAURANT
- Nha Trang Market or Dam Market. Open every day local craftsmen, farmers and fishermen gather to sell an extensive array of handmade clothes, trinkets, seafood, fresh produce, and packaged goods to locals and tourists.
- Nha Trang Center. Nha Trang Centre is a modern shopping mall housing all the fashionable brand labels and good restaurant. There are also local designer fashion accessories, cosmetics, jewelry, perfume, sportswear and children's wear.
- Den Long (lanterns Vietnamese restaurant). Lanterns Vietnamese Restaurant specializes in Vietnamese soups from the popular Pho (noodles) as you may know to the signature soup of Nha Trang – the famous fish rice noodles (Bun Ca) that every visitor should eat when they are in Nha Trang. Furthermore, the restaurant also serves lunch and dinner with the variety of Vietnamese cake such as “Banh Xeo” and fried rice in a pineapple. Location: 30A Nguyen Thien Thuat, Nha Trang city.
- Thanh Hien seafood: The restaurant is very famous among the locals for its serving style of fresh food. You can choose many kinds of seafood which are kept alive on the glass boxes in front of your eyes. After choosing seafood, the staff will weight and calculate the price by kilograms.. - Hanh Xuan seafood: Hanh Xuan Seafood is well known for its fresh crab and fish hot pot, serving for affluent travelers.
